Biography

Prof. Hamit Serdar Cotert, D.M.D., Ph.D., is a distinguished academic and Professor of Prosthodontics at the Faculty of Dentistry, Ege University, Izmir, Turkiye, where he has served as a full-time faculty member since 1984 and as Professor of Prosthetic Dentistry since 2003. He received his DDS degree from Ege University in 1984 and subsequently completed his DMD and Ph.D. in Prosthodontics at the same institution in 1993.

His academic and clinical expertise encompasses prosthodontics, fixed prosthodontics, implant-supported prostheses, maxillofacial prosthetics, dental adhesion, ceramic and zirconia restorations, digital dentistry, prosthodontic treatment planning, and prosthetic rehabilitation of complex maxillofacial conditions. He has also contributed extensively to undergraduate and postgraduate education, serving as course director and clinical or simulation instructor across several areas of prosthodontic education.

Prof. Cotert has an extensive record of scholarly activity, including a textbook, book chapters, numerous international and national scientific publications, and contributions to research involving dental materials, adhesive dentistry, zirconia, CAD/CAM technologies, implant-supported prostheses, maxillofacial rehabilitation, and sleep-apnea-related prosthodontic treatment. His recent publications include studies on digital workflows, PEEK-resin interfaces, zirconia-dentin bonding, cleidocranial dysplasia rehabilitation, and porcelain laminate veneers.

He has supervised and mentored numerous doctoral, master's, and undergraduate research projects and has served as a scientific advisor on research projects involving advanced dental materials, zirconia, CAD/CAM restorations, prosthodontic materials, and digital imaging. He has also served as principal investigator or co-investigator on multiple Ege University research grants.

Prof. Cotert has significant experience in academic publishing and scholarly peer review. His editorial service includes serving as Section Editor in Prosthodontics for Türkiye Klinikleri Diş Hekimliği Dergisi, Guest Lead Editor for special issues, and Editorial Board Member for several international dental and medical journals. He has additionally served as an ad-hoc reviewer for numerous scientific journals in dentistry, oral health, biomedical science, and related disciplines.

With more than four decades of academic experience, extensive teaching and research involvement, a substantial publication record, and longstanding contributions to scholarly peer review and editorial activities, Prof. Cotert brings broad expertise in prosthodontics, dental materials, clinical dentistry, academic research, and scientific publishing to the Editorial Board.
